CBC-TV Back On Course Televising CN Women's Open

The television home for Hockey Night In Canada, CBC-TV, is now the new home for the CN Canadian Women's Open Golf Championship beginning this coming September when the LPGA Tour visits Calgary, Alberta.

"We are thrilled to announce that golf is returning to CBC," said Scott Moore, Executive Director, CBC Sports, after it was announced that the Corporation has signed a three-year agreement with the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) for the broadcast rights to all four rounds carrying through to 2011.

"Our mandate is to provide the very best in Canadian sports programming, and with the LPGA more competitive than ever, we are proud to have the opportunity to present this marquee event to Canadians for the next three years."

"We are delighted to partner with CBC to deliver all the excitement of the CN Canadian Women's Open to television and online audiences across the country," said Scott Simmons, RCGA Executive Director and CEO. "CBC is long renowned as a cultural institution in sports broadcasting and we look forward to working in partnership over the next three years to elevate the profile of the CN Canadian Women's Open to thousands of Canadian golf fans from coast to coast."

The CBC's coverage will take place from September 3-6, from Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club in Calgary, on CBC-TV, CBCSports.ca and CBC's digital channel bold.

The CN Canadian Women's Open will have a field of 156 players competing for $2.75 million U.S. and, based on the caliber of players entered over the past two seasons the 2009 tournament is likely to produce a tournament field comparable to any of the four majors.
