1st Round - Canadian Tour California Q-School

Former University of Washington golf captain and NCAA champion Brock MacKenzie and Ron Won both shot three under 69's on Tuesday to share the lead after the first round of the Canadian Tour's California Qualifying School in Antee, CA.

The pair is one shot ahead of fellow American Ryan Plitz and two ahead of Mark Sider, Aaron Goldberg and Canadian Hansol Koh.

Jesse Barnsley, Justin Regier, Jarett Hamamoto, Ezequiel Reyna, Korey Storer, John Poucher, Erik Olson, David Hahn and Canadian Greg Machtaler are at even par 72. Regier, Olson and Machtaler are at their second Q-School in as many weeks, having failed to graduate at Brooksville, Fla.

This must seem like old times for MacKenzie. The Yakima, Wash., native joined the Canadian Tour in 2005 and after earning a pair of runner-ups in 2006; he jumped to the Nationwide Tour where he struggled after a promising 2007 rookie season.

Starting on the inward half, MacKenzie began rather inauspiciously with an opening bogey but three consecutive birdies starting at his sixth hole changed the tone of his round. He then played one under par golf the rest of the way.

Won, who attended Stanford University, also began on the back nine and put together a four birdie run beginning at his fourth to make the turn in four under par. Although he slipped to one over on his inward half, it was still enough to put him in prime position for a card.

A total of nine exempt cards and nine non-exempt cards plus ties will be handed out at the close of play on Friday.
