Canadian Delaet Hunting For Euros in South Africa

Canadian Tour member Graham DeLaet, at 8-under par, is only three strokes out of first place in the Sunshine Tour's Joburg Open, however, the Weyburn, Saskatchewan native is tied for 17th place on a crowded leaderboard heading into Sunday's final round.

Delaet, who finished fourth on the Canadian Tour's 2008 Order of Merit on the strength of winning the Desjardins Montreal Open, is the lone Canuck in the field of 83 survivors after scoring rounds of 72-66-68.

South African Charl Schwartzel, who bounced right back after a double bogey by scoring his second career hole-in-one Saturday, is one of three players tied for first place at 11-under par.

Fellow countryman Retief Goosen is one of three tied for fourth a shot back, seven players share seventh place and three more are tied for 14th.

Delaet. ranked sixth among Canadian professionals and 487th on the official world ranking, shares his 17th place position in the Joburg Tournament with no less than nine other players.

In all 35 players are within five shots of first place at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club shooting for a piece of the €1,100,000 purse. (1,477,352.85 USD)

The joburg Open is a co-sanctioned event on the European Tour and the South Africa PGA Sunshine Tour.
