A New Leader For Round Three Of Argentine Masters

For the third time in three days a new leader has emerged at the top of the pack in the Argentine Masters Championship being played in Buenos Aires, a co-sanctioned event on the Canadian Tour.

From the Canadian Tour

Fabian Gomez shot a blistering seven under par 64 to go to nine under par 204 and take a one-stroke lead over Eduardo Romero and Stuart Anderson.

Angel Cabrera shot 68 to sit alone in fourth at seven under 206, one ahead of Josh McCumber who shot his second straight 70.

Another stroke back at five under par 208 is Mike Mezei who shot a solid 67 and Rodolfo Gomez who came home in 70.

Second round co-leader Julio Zapata struggled his way to a 74 to drop to a share of tenth with a group that includes Kris Wasylowich who shot 69.

"During the first two days I just couldn't find the right touch on the greens, but after working with my coach I finally found it today," said Gomez. "It really made the difference for me."

His outstanding day of eight birdies and only one bogey allowed him to pass the top stars competing in this event that includes Angel Cabrera, the 2007 U.S. Open champion.
Eduardo Romero, the 2008 U.S. Senior Open champion, who held a share of the lead at the beginning of the day, carded a 2-under par 69 to move a stroke behind the new leader into a tie for second with Canadian Stuart Anderson.

Struggling with pain in his shoulder through most of the front nine, Romero renewed his energy by holing out for eagle at the par four ninth. His amazing 148-yard 9-iron shot of the day produced a huge roar that was heard throughout the grounds.

"It's been a while since I last made a two on a par-four. It was an unbelievable shot and I knew it was going in," said Romero. That shot helped me relax and boosted my confidence for the rest of the day."

Anderson, in contention all the week, finished another consistent round by holing out from a bunker for eagle on the final hole.

"It was an unreal shot on 18 and secured me a spot on the last group.

"I'm very excited about competing with all of these world-class champions Sunday," said Anderson, who is seeking his third Canadian Tour title.
