Tobiano - Golf Digest's Choice of Best New Canadian Course

Describing it as " . . . the best early Christmas present I could ever imagine," Pagebrook Inc., developer President Michael Grenier, has scored a rare double victory this year with word that the prestigious Golf Digest magazine has selected British Columbia's Tobiano as the 'Best New Canadian Course for 2008;.

Earlier this fall Canada's SCOREGolf Magazine accorded the picturesque Thomas McBroom-designed Tobiano, overlooking Lake Kamloops in the Thompson-Okanagan region of BC's Interior, with the same honour.

"Without question, Golf Digest is one of the game's most prestigious publications, it's ranking system and its panellists are the gold standard in the industry. To be recognized by Golf Digest is a distinct honour and a real tribute to the inspired creativity of Thomas McBroom and the dedicated effort of Director of Golf Miles Mortensen, Superintendent Terry Smith and our entire Tobiano staff. This is really their award."

The recognition by the two leading golf publications from among many outstanding new facilities across Canada not only honours Tobiano, also signals the emergence of the Kamloops area as one of the Canada's finest golf destinations.

"It is the dream, really, of the ownership and staff of every new course to have all the hard work recognized and perhaps win either of these prestigious awards," Grenier added. "To win both is an incredible honour, and it truly is doubly satisfying that, with the recognition from Golf Digest, now beyond Canada's borders the golf spotlight is on Kamloops and British Columbia."

The magnificent par 72 Tobiano Resort course is the sixth Thomas McBroom design to be named the Best New Course in Canada by Golf Digest.

"I am very proud that Tobiano has been recognized by Golf Digest; it is quite an extraordinary compliment to Mike Grenier, the course, and all the very talented men and women involved with Tobiano," said McBroom, whose six 'Best New Canadian Course' awards from Golf Digest are the most for any architect. "It is such a spectacular site with land that is so unique and so different from any landscape in Canada, in fact, anywhere. This award from Golf Digest confirms just how special it is and further differentiates Tobiano as a unique and memorable golf experience."

Ideally located in the semi-arid climate 20-minutes west of Kamloops, Tobiano is just a three-and-a-half hour drive from Vancouver and less than two hours from Kelowna in the heart of the Thompson Okanagan region, renowned for its wineries and year-round vacation destinations. On bluffs overlooking Kamloops Lake, McBroom transformed a portion of the fabled Six Mile Ranch into both a golfer's and photographer's dream.

"There are no higher honours in the golf industry for a facility in its first year," said Tobiano Director of Golf Miles Mortensen. "This latest honour from Golf Digest really is a fitting tribute to the incredible effort and dedication of everyone here, starting with Michael and Thomas. And looking at those plaques when we arrive for work each morning will serve as inspiration to ensure that everything we have done to earn the awards will not only be maintained, but also improved upon. It has been a phenomenal 2008, and we're looking forward to an even better 2009."
