CPGA Assistants, Mackenzie is back, PGA of BC employment openings

Dan Swanson and Bryn Parry-- chasing after a national CPGA title; Jackie Little and Alison Murdoch-- thwarted at U.S. Senior Women's Amateur; Jamie Mackenzie-- back in business on the Island again; Pro openings in BC.
BC's Dan Swanson of Guildford Golf Club fired an opening round 3-under par 68 and is tied for fifth place in the Canadian PGA Assistant's Championship in Bloell, Quebec, three strokes behind Ontario's Dave Levesque and Andrew Hopborn. Alberta's Darryl James is alone in third place at 66 followed by Quebec's Remi Bouchard at 67. Former Assistant titleholder (2005, 1999) Bryn Parry of North Vancouver's Seymour Creek Golf Centre is tied for 8th place after posting two-under pr 69. An early morning frost delayed Tuesday's play and some players still had to finish their rounds earlier today. Another former national champion (2006, 2004), Phil Jonas of Vancouver's McCleary Golf Academy came in at par 71 and is tied for 19th with 2003 CPGA Assistant's champion Eddward Boudreau of Vancouver Island's Arbutus Ridge G & CC, Sergej Dronov of Vancouver's University Golf Club and Gord Scutt of Golf Town in Victoria. Representing BC in the 36-hole InterZone competition are Parry, Kevin Maxwell (Salmon Arm Golf Club), Scutt and Swanson.

Congratulations go to British Columbia's Jackie Little from Port Alberni and Alison Murdoch of Victoria for their performances in the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur championship in Tulsa, Okla. Murdoch, the four-time Canadian Senior champion made it into match play competition but lost 2-1 in her opening round Monday while Little, the 2008 BC and Canadian Senior Women's champion was eliminated Tuesday in the round of 16 by top seeded Carolyn Creekmore of Dallas, the 2004 U.S. Senior Women's champion.

Veteran golf industry executive Jamie Mackenzie, formerly the head of Srixon Canada, before the parent Asian owners moved all North American operations to the Unitged States, effective this month, has joined Isle Golf Cars on Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast. "We are very pleased to have Jamie Mackenzie join our Company," says Isle Golf Cars' new owner Ron Chiovetti, "His years of experience and long time relationships with the golf trade will assist us in our growth strategy moving forward." For the past 17 years Isle Golf Cars, established by Tim Sheedy, has been the authorized distributor for Club Car. For Mackenzie, who has now taken up residence at Nanoose Bay, returning to Vancouver Island will be like going home. For a number of years Victoria served as Canadian Headquarters for Callaway Golf while McKenzie was the firm's Canadian president.
