Five Canadian women finished among the top 20 in the British Womens Seniors Amateur Championship in Belfast, Ireland Thursday, but none came close to Germany's Chris Utermack who took the 2008 title in a one-hole playoff over England's Susan Dye.
Utermack prevailed through 54 holes of variable weather conditions by coming from four shots behind to catch Dye, the overnight leader, then ended the competition with a par on the first extra hole. Both players had finished regulation play at 18-over par 231.
Top Canadian was Surrey, British Columbia's Karen Pultz of Peace Portal Golf Club who finished alone in 12th place after posting a 27-over par 240 total, one stroke in front of Vancouver's Holly Horwood from Shaughnessy Golf Club, who fired a 74 for the low round of the day to move up into a tie for 13th place with the British Senior Amateur defending champion Alison Murdoch of Victoria.
Phylis Lashuck of Vancouver was another shot back and tied for 16th at 242 while Calgary's Diane Williams won the tournament's 60-64 age category by finishing tied for 20th at 32-over par 245.
