Mitch Gillis Finally Makes His Canadian Tour Move

Australian Adam Bland shot a blistering 11 under par 61 Saturday to move into a third round tie for first place with Canada's Kent Eger of Regina at 19-under par at the Canadian Tour's Seaforth Country Classic in Ontario.

Making his strongest start yet as a Canadian Tour rookie, 2007 BC Amateur champion MItchel Gillis of Williams Lake is just two strokes back following rounds of 67-64-65 and at 17-under 196 and is one up on the foursome of Daniel Im (67), John Ellis (66), Mark Warman (68) and second round co-leader Andrew Parr (69).

"It feels good to start playing well again," said Bland, whose 61 is a career low. "On a course like this, you can get your wedge game going. Then you start holing some putts and get on a good roll."

Having played with the belly putter for more than a year, Bland, whorecorded 10 birdies on he day, decided it was time for a change.

"I threw out the putter I used the last two days and put in the short putter today," said Bland. "I was going to use the new one for only one day, but I guess I have to keep it in the bag now.

"It's funny," he continued. "I always said I would never go back to the short putter but I haven't putted well for the last few months. That is why I decided to try it again. I didn't actually feel that comfortable out there with it, but the ball was coming off it well."

After two wins in his rookie 2007 season, Bland, who is winless thus far this season, feels he has pinpointed the problem.

"I haven't been working hard enough," he revealed. "I've been taking it easy and just rolling along. A few weeks ago I started working hard again but it was frustrating because I was working hard but not playing well until this week.

To show how tough it is against the field this week, second round
co-leader Wil Colins shot a 1-under 70 and fell from first to eighth place.

Gillis, whose best finish in 12 starts this season is a tie for 34th, has only made the cut in four tournaments and currently is 110th on the Tour's Order of Merit money list with a $3.408.
