A World Golf Foundation Report On Golf 20/20

Golf 20/20, managed by the World Golf Foundation as an initiative to address the future of the game in a manner that accelerates growth in both interest and participation, is gearing up for a prime industry conference at the World Golf Village in November, immediately following the induction ceremonies for the World Golf Hall of Fame.

The following notice for all representatives in the golf industry is an update on the status of the World Golf Foundation's GOLF 20/20 Vision For The Future initiative, and to provide an advance look at what promises to be a dynamic industry event this fall.

From the office of:
Stephen F. Mona
Chief Executive Officer
World Golf Foundation

images.jpegFollowing a year off in 2007 to refine long-term strategies, GOLF 20/20 has been significantly reinvigorated and is moving forward with renewed momentum. The Executive Committee has been expanded to include a broader cross-section of golf industry leadership, and working committees have been formed in the areas of Player Development, Research and Communications.

Please mark your calendar and save the date of Tuesday, November 11, 2008. On that date, at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida, GOLF 20/20 will again take the stage, but with some significant differences to prior years. This year, GOLF 20/20 will be a one-day industry forum as opposed to the 2-3 day conference in prior years. More importantly, it will be entirely focused on specific initiatives to ensure the continued growth and vitality of the golf industry in the U.S. and Canada.

Forum topics currently under consideration for inclusion include an emphasis on a model program to connect adults to the game, as well as a thorough evaluation of the benchmark metrics and growth targets that the industry can focus on in the years ahead. The day's program will be very action-oriented, but also accompanied by some out-of-the-box thinking to stretch our minds and expand our vision about what alternative future scenarios for the industry might look like.

If your schedule permits, we suggest that you arrive in St. Augustine early enough on Monday, November 10 to permit your attendance at that evening's annual Induction Ceremony at the World Golf Hall of Fame. Bob Charles (Veteran's Category), Pete Dye (Lifetime Achievement), Denny Shute (Veteran's Category), Carol Semple Thompson (Lifetime Achievement), Herbert Warren Wind (Lifetime Achievement), and Craig Wood (PGA TOUR Ballot) will be honored at the Induction Ceremony beginning at 6:00 p.m. that evening.

I will provide you with periodic GOLF 20/20 updates over the next few months, but in the meantime I hope you will block out the time now to join us on November 10-11. In the meantime, if you'd like additional input or have questions, please feel free to contact Bob Combs, the Foundation's SVP of Communications, Research & Public Affairs. Bob may be reached at bcombs@worldgolffoundation.org.

We look forward to seeing you at World Golf Village in November.
