Pengrowth's Jim Kinnear -- Recognized By The RCGA

One of Canada's leading entrepreneurs and a driving force behind numerous charitable initiatives, not to mention his unwavering support of the Canadian Open Championship, is to be honoured this weekend as the
2008 recipient of the Royal Canadian Golf Association's Distinguished Service Award.

Jim Kinnear, President and C.E.O of Pengrowth Management Ltd., of Calgary, Alberta will be presented with his award on Saturday, January 19th at the RCGA's Annual General Meeting at the Sheraton Hotel in Toronto.

Official RCGA Announcement

"I am truly honoured to be receiving this award from the RCGA because it is the last thing I would have expected for helping an organization and a sport I am so passionate about," said Jim Kinnear. "The Canadian Open is a unique national event that helps put our country and many of the world's best golfers on the international stage, and I hope many other citizens and corporate leaders will continue to embrace this wonderful tournament and all that it has to offer."

As President and C.E.O of Pengrowth Management Ltd., Kinnear is regularly recognized for his outstanding community contributions as well as his foresight and business acumen.

He is known for supporting organizations that promote the development of leadership and excellence in sports, arts and culture, education, finance and health care. Some of Pengrowth's key partnerships include: The Banff Centre and the Kinnear Centre for Creativity and Innovation, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, the Pengrowth-Nova Scotia Energy Scholarship Fund, the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and the Pengrowth Rockyview Invitational Golf Tournament - one of Canada's largest single day charity golf tournaments that has raised more than $7 million towards health initiatives over the past 16 years. Pengrowth Management Limited is also the building sponsor of the Pengrowth Saddledome.

With Pengrowth involved in the RBC Canadian Open since 1997 and a Premier Partner of the event since 2006, Kinnear has been a driving force behind the continuation of Canada's national championship over the past several years.

In 2007 he rose to national awareness in the Canadian golf community when he championed an effort to assist the RCGA in the search for a title sponsor for the Canadian Open. Committed to the value and significance of the championship, Kinnear gathered several executives and business leaders for roundtable discussions at both the 2007 Canadian Open at Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham, Ont. as well as the President's Cup in Montreal. His passion and dedicated efforts in 2007 proved to be a major catalyst in RBC ultimately signing on as title sponsor of RBC Canadian Open.

"I can't say enough how truly thankful the RCGA is for the inspired efforts of Jim Kinnear," said RCGA President Garry West. "Jim has been a great supporter of the RCGA in recent years and he played an instrumental role in championing support within corporate Canada for our national Open championship. With a tireless passion for the game of golf and his unparalleled commitment in recent years to the RBC Canadian Open, Jim is emblematic of how one individual can indeed make a difference and a most worthy recipient of the 2008 RCGA Distinguished Service Award."

Kinnear has a strong belief in building strong communities in places where Pengrowth operates, and was most recently recognized as the Alberta Venture Business Person of the Year (2007), an award that recognizes exceptional leadership inside and outside of business. He has also received the prestigious Fraser Milner Casgrain Pinnacle Award for entrepreneurship and community service (2007), the Calgary Consumer's Choice Award for Business Man of the Year (2006), the Alberta Centennial Medal for outstanding service to the people and province of Alberta (2005) and the Ernst & Young Prairies Region Entrepreneur of the Year Award (2001).
