Barry Sharpe Biography
Since his first days as a teenager with the Canadian Press News Agency in Toronto, Barry Sharpe has been involved in writing, reporting and broadcasting news and sports for newspapers, magazines, radio and television since 1958. An active athlete on junior teams in the Metro Toronto area, Barry was a goaltender in hockey, a forward in lacrosse, an end in football and a centre fielder in baseball. However, his interest in golf didnt kick in until 1967 when CPGA Master Professional Bruce Murray introduced him to two Canadian golfing legends, the affable Marlene (Stewart) Streit and the inimitable Moe Norman. After taking up residence in British Columbia in the 1970s and expanding his experience in the fields of audio/visual production, Barry was a sportscaster with CKNW & CFMI radio in Vancouver when invited to become media director for the BC PGA. In 1980 he formed West Coast Golf Ltd., became the producer-host of a regular weekly TV series of the same name for CKVU-TVs Sports Page and a year later created the weekly syndicated West Coast Golf radio features that originated from CHQM AM & FM in Vancouver through 1992. A contributing writer for a number of international publications like Golf World, Golfweek and Canadas Score Golf Magazine, Barrys feature articles, columns and familiar voice reports have been enjoyed by audiences throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Now through the Internet and BC Golf News, golf enthusiasts can continue to experience Barrys unique style of writing, photography, interviewing and broadcasting. |
